HighFleet Ship Roles Guide: Nuclear Missile Carrier, Early Warning & More (2024)

One of HighFleet’s highlights is the number of ships and roles available to the player for consideration and use. However, not all of the terms or symbols will always be self-explanatory at a glance, so we decided to give a run down of what each ship role does and how it fits into the player’s fleet.

When deciding on which ships to bring and purchase for their fleet, all ships will usually have more than one role symbol associated with them, but one of these symbols will have the highest rating, which defines the ship’s primary role.

Here are the main ship roles in HighFleet:

Flagship
Air Superiority
Strike Ship
Interceptor
AA Defence
Tanker
Early Warning
Aircraft Carrier
Missile Carrier
Nuclear Missile Carrier

And here’s everything you need to know about ship roles in HighFleet.

Flagship

The flagship is the centerpiece of any fleet. All players will have to bring at least one (usually the Sevastopol heavy cruiser) and they will act as the fleet’s mothership or mobile base. This doesn’t preclude the player from bringing additional mobile-base style strategic ships, but the flagship will always be the backbone of any fleet.

Air Superiority

The air superiority role indicates the ship’s quality at engaging in aerial dogfights with enemy vessels, keeping the skies clear. These types of ships will be best utilized in the tactical combat mode due to their solid durability and excellent weaponry.

Strike Ship

Ships with a high strike ship role rating are basically heavy conventional bombers, specializing in bomb drops on ground targets. These strike vessels will forgo standard weapons and missiles for additional bombs and are some of the most niche and specialized ships over the deserts of Gerat.

Interceptor

Interceptors are the cousins of air superiority ships in that they’re also focused on keeping the skies clear of enemies. However, interceptors have more of a strategic role in that they’re designed to pursue and catch enemies on the strategic map and, as a result, these ships will generally be fast, lightweight, and carry a moderate amount of firepower.

AA Defence

If strike ships focus on ground targets, then AA defence ships focus on enemies in the sky. However, the role name is slightly misleading as AA stands for Anti-Air, when in fact in the game this type of ship is designed to protect the fleet from strategic missiles and aircraft rather than full-blown ships. They still have some conventional armament, but they will usually bring more AAMs than other ships.

Tanker

Tankers are the cargo ships of the fleet, carrying an abundant amount of fuel to keep Strike Groups running and completing missions. Most tanker ships will barely have any weapons at all and will need an escort to keep them safe, however, some of the larger tankers will have enough armor and even weapons to moderately protect themselves.

Early Warning

Arguably the most important ship role, at least in moderate numbers, early warning ships are equipped with powerful tracking systems, such as radar, infrared sensors, and radar interception systems. These ships will give the player vital situational awareness and act as the fleet’s eyes and ears. They’re typically lightly-armed if at all and should avoid combat at all costs.

Aircraft Carrier

Aircraft carrier ships are the first of three highly valuable strategic roles. These ships may not be as well armored or armed compared to some of the other combat-centric ships, but they bring a squadron of aircraft with them that have a variety of uses, from recon, to defending against missiles and attacking aircraft, something no other ship can do.

Missile Carrier

The second strategic ship type, missile carrier ships harbor powerful and deadly cruise missiles meant for precision long range strikes and bombardment. These ships are usually just a flatbed with missile bays and will have minimal to no armaments to defend themselves with and will require escort to cover for them.

Nuclear Missile Carrier

The even deadlier bigger brother of the missile carrier ship, nuclear missile carrier ships are some of the most expensive and largest ships of the fleet. They’re too big and sluggish to effectively participate in dogfights, but they carry the most prized weaponry of any fleet that can decimate whole Strike Groups by themselves and should only be used as a last resort, lest you open the flood gates to full on nuclear war.

The backbone of HighFleet’s gameplay is all about using and managing ships to complete various objectives and missions. This ship role primer gives a baseline for players to work with when composing their fleets. The challenge of any admiral going forward is to find the optimal combination of ships to minimize their own fleet’s weaknesses and maximize their own mission profile.
